15 Jul WTGF Inspection Team Confirms Strong Progress Towards the 2027 World Transplant Games in Leuven
The World Transplant Games Federation (WTGF) recently completed a successful inspection visit to Leuven, Belgium, as preparations continue for the 2027 World Transplant Games, which will take place from 1–8 August 2027.
Representing the WTGF during the visit were Orla Smyth, WTGF Trustee and Sports Committee member, and Gerardo Reyna, WTGF Vice President, representing the Executive.
Over the few days, the inspection team visited the proposed competition venues, accommodation facilities, transport hubs and the planned locations for the Opening Ceremony, Cultural Evening and Gala Dinner. The programme also included meetings with the Local Organising Committee and key delivery partners responsible for bringing the Games to life.
Overall, the inspection team was extremely pleased with the progress made to date. The quality of the sporting venues, supporting facilities and overall Games concept continues to demonstrate that Leuven is well positioned to deliver an outstanding World Transplant Games experience. While a small number of venues require some additional operational planning and minor enhancements, these have already been identified and are being actively addressed by the organising team.
The inspection also highlighted the strength of the medical programme being developed for the Games. With excellent medical partners already engaged, athletes can look forward to comprehensive medical support throughout the event.
Significant progress has also been made behind the scenes on the athlete registration process. Registration packages are currently being finalised, while the WTGF’s new registration system is undergoing its final stages of testing to ensure a smooth and user-friendly experience for participants from around the world.
The official Games website, registration information and accommodation packages are expected to be launched as part of the One Year to Go celebrations in August 2026, marking another exciting milestone on the road to Leuven 2027.
“The excitement is certainly building,” said Gerardo Reyna, WTGF Vice President. “The Local Organising Committee has made excellent progress, and it is clear that Leuven is developing into a fantastic host city for the World Transplant Games. We are confident that athletes, donor families, living donors and supporters from around the world can look forward to an unforgettable Games experience.”
With preparations accelerating across every area of Games delivery, the countdown to the 2027 World Transplant Games in Leuven is well and truly underway.
