Host cities announced: Vancouver 2029 and Rotterdam 2031

Two cities. Two World Transplant Games. One extraordinary global community.

Following an extensive international bidding and evaluation process, the WTGF Board of Trustees confirmed the two future host cities at its September 2026 Board Meeting in London. With Leuven 2027 already confirmed, our next three summer Games are now set.

Vancouver 2029

The 2029 World Transplant Games will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, using world-class facilities at the University of British Columbia (UBC). It will be a return to Canada, which previously hosted the Games in British Columbia in 1993 and Ontario in 2005.

WTGF President Liz Schick said: “It will be an incredible full-circle moment to see the Games return to Canada, having previously been hosted in British Columbia in 1993 and Ontario in 2005.”

Brenda Brown, President of the Canadian Transplant Association, said: “We are thrilled and deeply honoured to welcome the World Transplant Games to Vancouver in 2029. These Games celebrate the extraordinary impact of organ and tissue donation and the incredible strength of the transplant community worldwide.”

Rotterdam 2031

In 2031 the Games will go to Rotterdam – the first time the World Transplant Games have been held in the Netherlands since Amsterdam in 1984. The bid was supported by Rotterdam Partners alongside Bureau Vermaeck, Transfit, Rotterdam Topsport, Erasmus MC Transplant Institute and the wider Netherlands transplantation community.

Jeroen Postma, Vice-Mayor for Youth, Education & Sport at the City of Rotterdam, said: “Rotterdam is a city where sport, health and innovation come together, and we would be immensely proud to welcome these inspiring athletes from around the world to our city.”

What happens next

Both host organisations will now work with WTGF on planning, venues and their programmes of sport and celebration. In the meantime, all eyes are on Leuven, Belgium, where the World Transplant Games take place from 1 to 8 August 2027.
