Benefits of Exercise
Evidence shows that regular physical activity is highly positive for transplant patients – having beneficial effects for all aspects of your quality of life and yet many people in the transplant community are still not fully aware of the enormous benefits that regular physical activity can have for your health pre and post-transplant. Transplant survival rates are higher than ever before as adopting a physically active lifestyle tends to help the organ work better and longer. The benefits of exercise are only starting to be appreciated and most clinical practice guidelines now recommend exercise as standard care for solid organ transplant recipients, however, most recipients don’t know when, where or how to begin their journey back to life.
As a global sports Federation that promotes sports for all, the World Transplant Games Federation aims to raise awareness and educate the transplant community on the benefits of physical activity and break down the barriers to exercise.
Our goal is to assist all recipients, regardless of age or fitness levels, to get Refit and make the most out of their second chance at a healthy, happy life.

Benefits of Wellness Programs?
Rehabilitation should not only focus on fitness and exercise but also help recipients with their overall health, mental and emotional wellbeing. Getting a transplant is not a cure in itself, recipients have to learn to manage their stress, anxiety, deal with traumas they have experienced, and integrate back into everyday life. People today are busy, and there can be very little time for taking proper care of yourself. Wellness programs can help boost morale, improve health and fitness, increase productivity and help you reduce stress and anxiety.
The new wellness series brings you a variety of courses focusing on holistic healing: emotional and mental wellbeing as part of your overall rehabilitation.

Introducing the
World Transplant Games Federation
For over 40 years the World Transplant Games Federation has been staging international sporting events and promoting education around transplantation in order to promote the physical success of transplant surgery and the need to raise public awareness and increase organ donation. The WTGF is a Not-for-profit international organisation, and registered charity founded in 1978. The Federation is run by an elected body – the Board of Trustees, comprising the President, General Secretary, Treasurer and a maximum of ten Trustees from all over the world, all serving on a voluntary basis.
For more information on the World Transplant Games Federation please click here.
The WTGF currently has over 60 member countries, most of whom have their own national transplant sport organisations. Every year we see new members join the Federation with an opportunity to now participate in the World Games and benefit from the various educational campaigns, which we undertake.

Transplantation – The Start of Another Journey
The World Transplant Games Federation understands that transplant recipients have ongoing challenges. A transplant is not a cure in its own right but a chance to start again. The Federation promotes the full rehabilitation and wellbeing of recipients through healthy lifestyle achieved through exercise and sport. Our new ReFit for Life! transplant Rehabilitation program is part of our Fit For Life! initiative designed to provide recipients with a simple step-by-step guide to a life of activity and sport while also creating an environment where physical activity is the ‘norm’ post transplant.
