05 Oct From Hospital Bed to the Matterhorn: Monty’s Climb Changed Lives
In 2006, Monty Summers was diagnosed with leukaemia. His only chance to survive was a bone marrow transplant. Thanks to a selfless donor, Monty received a second chance at life, a chance he has never taken for granted.
From those difficult days in a hospital bed, Monty has transformed his journey into one of strength, resilience, and inspiration. He has gone on to represent Australia at the World Transplant Games, and this year, he set his sights even higher, the Matterhorn, one of the most iconic and challenging peaks in the world.
Monty’s climb was about more than reaching the summit. It was about proving that transplant recipients can not only live, but thrive, and about raising awareness and funds to support others in the transplant community. Backed by the power of community and generosity, his climb raised an incredible £1,260 for the World Transplant Games Federation.
💚 “This challenge is about more than mountains. I’m raising funds for the federation that gave me strength, opportunity, and the chance to compete again. It’s about hope, resilience, and honouring my donor,” Monty shared.
And he isn’t stopping there. Monty plans to take on Mont Blanc, followed by returning to the track at the World Transplant Games in Dresden, continuing his mission to inspire others and champion the Gift of Life.
Monty’s story is proof that the summit is never just about the mountain, it’s about the community that makes every step possible, and the lives touched along the way.
✨ Thank you to everyone who supported Monty’s journey and turned courage into impact.
