As champions of the football tournament at the 2025 World Transplant Games in Dresden, Germany will now host the 2026 Transplant Football World Cup in Frankfurt, welcoming both returning teams from the inaugural TFWC 2024 tournament and new nations ready to join the competition.

The Transplant Football World Cup (TFWC) brings together transplant recipients from around the world to compete in an international football tournament that celebrates life, resilience and the power of organ donation.

Hosted by the World Transplant Games Federation (WTGF) in cooperation with TransDia Sport Deutschland e.V., the tournament will welcome national teams representing transplant communities from across the globe.

Frankfurt is the ideal host city for this event. As the administrative heart of football in Germany and home to the headquarters of both the DFB and the DFL, the city stands for football governance, visibility and credibility. Combined with its outstanding international accessibility, first-class infrastructure and strong transport connections, Frankfurt offers excellent conditions for teams and delegations from around the world.

About The Tournament

The Transplant Football World Cup is an international football competition specifically created for athletes who have undergone organ transplantation.

The tournament highlights the achievements of transplant recipients and demonstrates the life-saving impact of organ donation.

The first edition took place in Cervia, Italy in 2024. The 2026 edition in Frankfurt aims to further expand the global transplant sports community.

Tournament Format

The Transplant Football World Cup will be played in the format of 7-a-side football.

Key characteristics:

  • National transplant teams
  • Minimum squad size of 12 players
  • Matches with two 20-minute halves
  • 10-minute halftime break
  • International referees


The competition will consist of a group stage followed by knockout rounds.

Getting There

Frankfurt is a premier European transport hub, making it incredibly easy to reach from anywhere in the world:

  • By Plane: 
    • Opt 1: Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) is one of the world’s major aviation hubs, offering direct flights from almost every continent.  From FRA to Frankfurt Main Train Station = 12 – 15 minutes by tube. FRA to Hotels in Ostend = 30-40 minutes by tube
    • Opt 2: QEF (Frankfurt -Egelsbach) – From QEF to Frankfurt Main Train Station = 30 – 45 minutes by tube
    • Opt 3: HHN (Frankfurt – Hahn) – From HHN to Frankfurt Main Train Station = 2 hours by direct bus. (this route is not recommended)
  • By Train: Frankfurt Central Station and the Airport Long-Distance Station connect the city seamlessly to the European high-speed network (ICE/TGV)—perfect for quick trips from major European cities.
