MEDIA RELEASE: 10th World Transplant Winter Games

10th World Transplant Winter Games,
What A Wonderful Games!

The 10th World Transplant Winter Games have come and gone with athletes and supporters now challenged by the melancholy that always follows a fabulous week of competition and friendship.

The games were simply outstanding. The camaraderie, togetherness and spirit were on display for an entire week.
Participants from 25 countries descended on Anzère, Switzerland, for the Winter Games from January 7 to 12. A total of 93 Competitors, 78 supporters, 22 Nicholas Green Camp participants as well an international team of volunteers. The Games also saw the inclusion of 14 Living Donors and Donor Family members who were invited to compete in a select number of races.

It was the perfect number of participants with a great bond developed throughout the week.

From a difficult first day with high winds closing the resort, the week finished under perfect blue skies. All the team managers supported the games superbly and locals also became a real part of the games as volunteers bringing a real family feel to the event.

The Nicholas Cup was held alongside the world games with the children enjoying a week of fun and sun in the   snow at the Nicholas Green Camp. Thank you to the Swiss transplant President Pierre Yves Maillard gave medals at Nicholas Cup and to the Layzell family, a donor family who awarded the Cup.

Thanks to Anzère, Arbaz and Ayent, also to the TACKERS team and Viamonde for their expert management of the kids’ camp.

Huge thanks to LOC chair, Liz Schick, who pulled the games together with the support of WTGF staffers, Kim, Becki and Karen.

But the last word of thanks must go to the athletes and supporters who believed in the WTGF putting on a Winter Games after a few years absence, a decision made just 7 months before the event.

The winter games are firmly back on the calendar. We look forward to bringing news of the 2020 and 2022 games.
