This Family and the Games are my World: Conceptualizing the British and European Transplant Games as Therapeutic Landscapes
SPEAKER: Abbie E Greig, PhD student, University of Cambridge, UK
DATE: Tuesday, 28 November 2023
TIME: 01:00 PM Universal Time UTC
INFORMATION: This webinar will draw upon work within the discipline of health geography to explore the Transplant Games as a ‘therapeutic landscape’. Discussing research at the 2022 British Transplant Games and the 2022 European Transplant and Dialysis Games, we will discuss the Games as a space of belonging, hope and motivation for organ recipients. Through this therapeutic landscapes perspective, the Games can be understood as a peer-to-peer clinic: a care space where individuals are more actively involved in their health on a reciprocal level than in the traditional hospital clinic. As such, the Games will be discussed as an environment that positively contributes to both physical and mental wellbeing.
WHO IS THIS WEBINAR FOR: The webinar is aimed at anyone who is interested in exploring health and wellbeing from a social science perspective, as well as those interested in the role of peer support in contributing to health.
